Board hears federal funding uncertainty as ICfL advances DAAI subgrants

At the Feb. 21 meeting of the Idaho Board of Library Commissioners, State Librarian Stephanie Bailey-White told the board that the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) experienced a brief funding freeze that caused concern among commissioners and staff. Deputy State Librarian Dylan Baker said the ICfL is taking steps to secure support for federal funding during meetings in Washington, D.C.
Baker told the board, “The ICfL has received $6.3 million in funding for the next five years” for Digital Access for All Idahoans (DAAI) work and said the ICfL would finalize its grantee list and notify applicants at the end of February; selected grantees will be reviewed by NTIA and other federal agencies before awards are made. Bailey-White and Baker noted that 11 ICfL staff positions are federally funded, amplifying staff concern when federal payments were uncertain. Baker will meet Idaho’s four congressional offices in early March to highlight the program and funding needs.
