The North Greenbush Town Board on Jan. 9 approved Resolution 2025-01-07, authorizing a Dog Sheltering Agreement with Robert Guyer to house animals for the town under state approval.
Acting Town Attorney Phil Danaher explained the arrangement and said Mr. Guyer has coordinated sheltering with surrounding towns. Town Clerk Janice Hannigan Kerwin described the licensing and retrieval process used by the town. Resident Wayne Stritsman asked, "Who will be paying for the animals when it doesn't work out?" Danaher replied, "The owner will be responsible for all fees related to their dog," and noted that the town follows the same procedures used by the existing Hudson Mohawk Shelter.
Board members discussed capacity and costs; Councilman James Gordon said shelter fees and adoption pricing have hampered placement in the past and suggested lowered adoption fees and specials to increase adoptions. The resolution passed by poll vote with all board members present recorded Aye.
