At the Jan. 9 Town Board meeting, Town Engineer Eric Westfall reported that newly released FEMA flood maps add 149 structures to local flood zones and urged the board to form a technical committee to plan mitigation work.
"We need a long-term solution; this will affect half the town," Westfall said as he handed out the revised flood map for the permanent record. He recommended engaging consultant LaBerge and holding public engagement to identify upstream technical solutions and set aside funds for creek work and other mitigation measures.
Supervisor Joseph Bott said forming a committee was a good idea to get ahead of the changes. Councilmembers discussed whether to involve neighboring towns or first assess internal options; Westfall recommended an initial internal technical effort before external coordination. The board did not adopt a formal resolution at this meeting but asked staff to prepare next steps and to include the map in town records.
