Summitville assistant chief reports 54 runs year-to-date, 24 smoke detectors installed

Michael, who identified himself as assistant chief of Summitville, reported to the Coffee County Health Welfare Recreation Committee on May 26 that Summitville Fire Department has responded to 37 calls within its district plus 16 mutual-aid calls for about 53–54 runs total so far this year.
Michael said the department currently lists 22 active members, all trucks are in place and that the department is beginning a rotation to replace smoke detectors installed roughly 10 years ago. "We have responded to 37 calls in our district. And, we have responded to 16 mutual aid calls," Michael said, and then summarized the total runs: "So we're here the end of May, and we're already at 54 runs total for the department." He added that the department had installed about 24 smoke detectors through a state-supported program and that the devices have a 10-year battery life.
Committee members noted the county must continue record-keeping for detector installations; Michael confirmed the state fire marshal's office coordinates reporting and sends names and addresses for scheduling installations. The committee discussed the June paperwork cycle for detector reporting and agreed staff should turn those records in on schedule.
