Deputy reports signage gaps and enforcement limits; recommends more patrols and clearer ATV rules

Deputy Cram reported to the Danby Select Board on Feb. 13 that enforcement of speeding is hampered where speed limit signs are missing or widely spaced. He noted Smokey House Road has no posted limit and that signs on Danby Mountain Road are 1.5 miles apart, and recommended 25–30 mph signage roughly every half mile in some areas to improve enforcement.
On ATV enforcement, Deputy Cram said an ordinance would allow more enforcement than currently possible. He added that off‑road incursions into farm fields pose the largest enforcement problem and that registered, insured vehicles on the road are covered in case of crash. The deputy said the department will increase patrols on back roads to address issues.
