Board sets June 30 compliance date, $75-per-day fines possible for 999 B Street

The New Smyrna Beach Code Compliance Board on May 22 set a June 30, 2025 compliance deadline for 999 B Street and authorized fines if required permits are not obtained.
Officer John Parks told the board he observed siding being installed on December 13, 2024 while posting a prior order at the property and found no siding permit in the system. Parks said an application is in the system now but fees are due and resubmittal is required. Because a prior board order was present at the time the siding was observed, Parks recommended a higher daily fine of $75 (rather than the usual $50 for residential occupied properties) if the property is not brought into compliance by June 30, 2025.
"My recommendation ... is a lot of times for residential property that people were residing in is only $50 unless there's extenuating circumstances. This time, I believe that 75 would be a little bit more reasonable," Parks said. The board accepted staff's recommendation. Respondents were ordered to contact the inspector to verify compliance; if unresolved the daily fine will commence on June 30 and may continue until the property complies, not to exceed the $10,000 maximum.
