Redmond School Board narrows executive-limitation wording, returns revisions to Sept. 25 meeting

The Redmond School District Board of Directors reviewed and directed edits to draft Executive Limitations during its Sept. 11 work session, with members asking staff to return revised language to the Sept. 25 regular meeting.
Peggy Kinkade led the board through sample Executive Limitations (ELs) adapted from other districts under the Carver governance model. The board added a sentence to the draft EL #6 (Technology) from Issaquah's policy to "Prohibit the use of technology resources for commercial, political, illegal or indecent purposes or that disrupts the learning environment of students," and inserted language in EL #7 (Communication to the Board) requiring the superintendent to advise the board "if, in the superintendent's opinion, the board or any of its members are not in compliance with its own policies on governance process," also adapted from Issaquah. Kinkade said the changes reflected sample language districts have used to clarify limits and reporting obligations.
Board members asked staff to incorporate the changes and return a redlined version at the Sept. 25 board meeting; the board scheduled review of the next Executive Limitation (Safety) for the Oct. 9 work session. The amendments are procedural policy language; no formal vote on the revised ELs was recorded at the Sept. 11 session.
The board's review followed the Carver Model approach the district is using to separate governance and management duties. Directors emphasized clarity around communications and technology limits; the district will present the updated drafts for formal action at the next regular meeting.
