Council extends hauled-waste agreement with Crook County for one year

Public Works Director Casey Keiser asked the council to approve a one-year extension to the hauled-waste agreement with Crook County that allows private septic haulers to deliver septage to holding tanks at the county landfill for later transfer to the city's wastewater plant. "We receive 7¢ a gallon for that septage that we receive," Keiser said, adding that the arrangement has worked for about a year without ill effects and that the city has seen approximately $300,000 in revenue from the practice.
Keiser said staff are exploring a more permanent, modular receiving station that would include screening, automatic metering and swipe-in access for haulers if the city decides to formalize the arrangement. Council moved, seconded and approved Resolution 16-35 to authorize a one-year extension of the hauled-waste arrangement.
