In an informational meeting that followed the regular agenda, DDA staff presented a year-overview and preliminary 2026 metrics. Staff said the DDA district recorded 30 commercial building permits in 2025 totaling just over $5.1 million in construction value. For 2026 through May 1, staff reported roughly $4.5 million in private investment based on permit valuations and named several recent business openings or expansions including Greenfield Premium Tobacco, Old National Bank, Jersey Mike’s and iSMASH.
Staff reviewed the village reimagined work and reiterated that property acquisitions (including a parcel purchased last year) support future Tassel Park improvements and potentially safer river access and pedestrian crossings. The consultant Troyer Group is finalizing Tassel Park design based on public input; staff said the DDA intends to issue bonds later this year to help fund the park and related infrastructure and that phase 1 construction could begin as early as this fall if plans remain on schedule.
