Samantha presented the economic development director's report and highlighted programs aimed at supporting local small businesses and improving the city's planning tools.
She said Volusia Business Resources will bring a free small business funding workshop to New Smyrna Beach on June 18 at the Brandon Center to help owners prepare for bank funding. Samantha also said the city has contracted Kimley Horn (approved April 22) to update the comprehensive economic development strategy and the community redevelopment agency plans, and that public meetings will likely begin in September.
Samantha described ongoing sustainability work—research and newsletter tips for small businesses on saving water, electricity and reducing waste—and noted municipal solar panel installations on the Coronado Civic Center and Live Oak Center. She also highlighted updated online maps that track capital project status and provide links to project details for public viewing.
