Fire Chief Jeremy Haddix told the council that two fire department personnel were sent south to assist with Hurricane Helene relief efforts over the weekend. He said donations for victims are being accepted at Vincent Memorial and Freedom Baptist Churches and that Linda Griffith is accepting donations for a limited time at the Nutter Fort Post Office.
Chief Haddix also reported that tickets are on sale for the department's Ultimate Giveaway and that the Robert C. Byrd High School homecoming parade on Oct. 2 passed through town and drew large crowds. The minutes record these operational updates but do not list donation totals or the identities of the deployed personnel beyond the count of two.
