The Three Oaks Village Council on May 14 approved a Metro Act Bilateral Agreement with Surf Internet that requires the company to post a $25,000 bond held by the village for one year after construction to cover any water or sewer line damage.
Andrew Rudd, identified as a Surf representative, told the council “there is no cost to the Village for the work we are going to do” and described buried fiber installation with consumer pricing that “goes up to 1 gigabyte. That 1 gigabyte is roughly $85 a month.” Council member Jones moved the motion, which Thomas seconded; the vote was unanimous.
The agreement requires Surf to be responsible for any necessary repairs from its work; the village will retain the $25,000 bond for one year after construction is complete as a safeguard. Council discussion did not record any additional village costs or easements tied to the construction. Surf indicated the work would take an estimated two to three months.
