CDD discusses 5'10 year storm surge resilience plan after surge modeling

Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager, urged the District to be proactive on storm surge protection and presented an action plan being developed to build resilience over the next five to ten years. Long described a hypothetical mapping exercise for a storm like "Hurricane Milton" that showed a 10' to 12' storm surge could have flooded roughly 45% to 55% of the community, and requested the CDD designate a Board representative and staff or engineering representative to coordinate with county, state and Village entities.
District counsel and supervisors discussed potential Army Corps ideas and the need for long-term coordination and funding. The Board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed Supervisor Keith Merrill will assist and authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to support as necessary. No financing or firm project commitments were approved at the meeting; the discussion produced a direction to pursue coordination and planning activities.
