The Board voted to authorize Bowman to retain RG Architects, P.A. as a subconsultant to redesign two gatehouses in Pelican Sound, with the District purchasing the construction improvements and booking $62,500 as an up-front reimbursable deferred cost to allow design and permitting to begin. Mr. Eric Long said the buildings will receive a "facelift" rather than demolition and noted the main gate has been struck about a dozen times this year; design and permitting are expected to take 12 to 18 months.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs and counsel discussed elevation certificates, possible changes in flood zones and whether original construction drawings are available. The motion authorizing Bowman to retain RG under standard Bowman terms and permitting the Chair to execute documents after review by District Counsel and the District Manager passed unanimously; Mr. Long will lead coordination with neighborhoods and Mr. Blumenthal will serve as Board liaison.
