Board asks staff to add parent-communication and emotional-safety language to EL #8

During an EL #8 review, the board directed Peggy Kinkade to draft language adding timely parent communication and explicit physical and emotional safety protections; the revised language will return Oct. 23 and EL #9 will be reviewed Nov. 6.
Peggy Kinkade led the board through samples of EL #8 using the Carver model at the Oct. 9, 2024 work session. Board members asked that Kinkade add language about communicating safety concerns with parents in a timely manner and include explicit reference to both physical and emotional safety.
Kinkade agreed to develop the requested language and to bring it back to the board's Oct. 23 meeting for further consideration. The board scheduled a review of EL #9 (Instructional Program) for the Nov. 6 work session.
The exchange was framed as a drafting and review process rather than a final policy adoption; the board provided direction to staff and did not vote on EL #8 at the Oct. 9 session.
