The Nicholas County Board of Education on May 18 unanimously accepted the resignation of Shawna Hatton as a board member, effective May 1, 2026. The board recorded Motion #9544, moved by Jarad Bromagen and seconded by Brenda Mattox; the motion passed 4-0.
The minutes state Hatton accepted employment with the office of the Nicholas County Attorney and cite KRS 160.180, which the board said bars concurrent service as such an employee and a board member. At the same meeting the board later voted (Motion #9570) to declare that a vacancy exists on the Board for District 3, a step that follows the accepted resignation.
