Colstrip council sets intent to levy solid-waste collection assessments

The council approved Resolution 2025R14, expressing the city's intent to levy assessments within city limits to defray the cost of solid-waste collection services. Michelle, the city clerk/treasurer, reminded the council that Montana law requires an annual notice and process for special assessments even if the assessment amount is not being changed.
Michelle said the 96-gallon container assessment has not been raised for many years and the city has not adjusted those rates "for years and years and years." She also noted staff is working to correct boundary inconsistencies in the streetlight district so taxpayers who should not be assessed are removed from the roll. The resolution passed following a motion and roll-call vote.
