Mosier homeowner says sprinkler requirement delayed build, seeks council help

Henri Mattson told the Mosier City Council on Oct. 21 that her family’s homebuilding on Maya Way in the Mosier Bluffs subdivision has been delayed after they discovered new requirements for fire sprinklers mid-process. Mattson said the added design work will be significantly more expensive and that conflicting information from contractors and other sources left the family uncertain about whether sprinklers were mandatory.
Mattson said a City engineer, John Grim, informed them that sprinklers are required, and she described frustration in dealing with both the City Engineer and City Manager Kathy Fitzpatrick about the change. Mayor Arlene Burns thanked Mattson for bringing the issue to the council and expressed sympathy for the family’s difficulty. The council did not take immediate formal action; staff follow-up is included in the meeting’s action items.
