Fire and highway departments report fall activity; fire answered 53 calls in reporting period

Putney Fire & Rescue reported 53 calls from Sept. 15 through Oct. 27, including 30 emergency medical service calls and 10 automatic fire alarms. The department said it reviewed hydrant operations, performed apparatus checks and continued dry-hydrant maintenance. The department also completed a capital plan and updated staff pay structure and department organization.
The Highway Department reported fall grading, leaf clearing, culvert cleaning and replacement, equipment maintenance, new tires for winter and installation of plow frames. The crew also noted ongoing preparation to ensure vehicles are ready for winter service.
