Putney residents present Walksafe Putney plan to bolster pedestrian safety

Ruby McAdoo, Putney Community Cares Coordinator, and Coni Richards, a board member, presented a neighborhood safety program called Walksafe Putney designed to "encourage safety for pedestrians," suggesting measures such as speed bumps, improved signage and sidewalk lighting.
Selectboard members and Town Manager Karen Astley responded with implementation constraints and next steps. Aileen Tulloch noted the town has a sidewalk project through the Windham Regional Commission (WRC) program; Astley reminded the group Route 5 is state-owned and the town cannot install speed bumps there and encouraged Walksafe Putney to participate in the village comprehensive-plan discussions where traffic flow and signage will be addressed.
