The Selectboard authorized the Town Manager to execute a contract with Bazin Brothers Inc. for Dummerston/Putney crushing and blasting work not to exceed $331,850 after the manager presented bids and a recommendation.
Town Manager recommended Bazin Brothers following consultations with Dummerston and Putney highway superintendents. Howard Fairman asked whether Bazin Brothers carried liability coverage for damage outside the gravel pit and whether blasting standards apply; the Town Manager said the contractor's subcontractor is Maine Blasting and that the town would examine liability coverage language and vet it before final execution: "will look at liability coverage for both, there is specific language regarding liability and will have it vetted regarding coverage; confident with the companies doing this work." Aileen Tulloch moved to award the contract and authorize the Town Manager to execute it; the motion passed.
The board's discussion focused on contractor insurance and applicable blasting standards; the Town Manager said the award will proceed with contract language addressing liability and that Dummerston had similarly confirmed its award to Bazin Brothers. The contract award was recorded as not-to-exceed $331,850.
