Council approves revised accommodations-tax disbursement; Old Town Preservation requests funds for water wheel repair

The council approved resolution 2026-37 to authorize a revised request for disbursement of accommodations-tax (ATAX) funds for fiscal 2023–24 after FEMA covered some of the originally requested building repairs.
City Clerk Jamie Barton said the revision was discussed at the prior study session and allows applicants to shift the same dollars to a new purpose because FEMA covered earlier repairs. Judy Dooley, treasurer of Old Town Preservation, told council members that between city insurance and FEMA some buildings had already been repaired but a 17th/18th-century water wheel had collapsed and they requested ATAX funds be shifted to pay for its repair. "Were asking for the money to be shifted from the buildings that's been repaired by FEMA to give us the money to repair the water wheel," Dooley said. The council approved the revised allocation unanimously.
