Mosier council hears requests from library and senior center; budget split proposed

Library representative Mary Lou Perry asked the council for $300 from the 2015–16 budget to cover operating costs—volunteers manage the library and electricity runs about $500 a year—while Senior Center representative Kathy Long requested the City continue its customary $300 donation and said the center’s annual costs total about $6,000–$7,000.
Councilor Emily Reed cautioned that the council had just reviewed the General Fund and needed to find expense reductions rather than add costs. Councilor Bill Akin proposed splitting the budgeted $300 donation between the two organizations. Mayor Arlene Burns said the council would continue the discussion during upcoming budget meetings; no formal motion or vote on the donation was recorded on Jan. 20.
