The Mosier City Council voted unanimously to approve The Dalles Disposal's requested rate increase for 2016 after a presentation by the company's regional representative, Jim Winterbottom. Winterbottom told the council the request reflects the anticipated effect of S.B. 245 and S.B. 263, which add DEQ landfill fees effective in April and July 2016.
Councilor Bill Akin moved to approve the rate increase, and Councilor Derek Hiser seconded. Council members asked whether The Dalles Disposal planned to start compost collection in Mosier; Winterbottom said "there are already pilot programs in place, with mixed success rates." He also said that customers who call after a missed pickup will not be charged. The motion passed unanimously.
