Council hires TG Law as town attorney; contract approved unanimously

Representatives from TG Law (Gemma and Zach) described the firm’s range of municipal experience and clarified exclusions from the standard retainer, including major litigation, bond and specialized tax or environmental cases, which the firm said it would refer to outside specialists while supervising work for the town.
Gemma told the council the firm would include typical town‑attorney duties (opinions, meeting attendance, routine drafting and advice) in the contract while reserving litigation, municipal bond counsel and certain specialized environmental or tax matters for outside counsel at additional cost. Council asked for clarity on billing increments (TG Law explained its minimum increment is 0.1 hour) and on communications with planning and zoning board members (firm said communications and routine advice to board members are included).
Council voted unanimously to approve the contract and the transition plan; staff and TG Law said they would overlap briefly to hand off active matters and get new counsel up to speed.
What’s next: TG Law will coordinate transition meetings with outgoing counsel, staff and key stakeholders to assume town‑attorney duties and begin providing regular legal support.
