Council preauthorizes acceptance of $437,642 AIP grant for Pullman–Moscow airport improvements

Bill Belknap told council that the airport had recently applied for a grant totaling about $437,642 for rehabilitation of runway and taxiway markings and procurement of rescue and fire safety equipment and that the airport will provide the local match (around $20,000). Belknap said the turnaround on federal grants is tight and that municipal preauthorization is a routine step to allow timely acceptance. Council moved and seconded a resolution authorizing acceptance of AIP grant number 74 and approved it on roll call.
Mayor and councilors asked whether the repainting would disrupt flights; Belknap said repainting is a quick-dry operation and would be coordinated to minimize impact on operations. The preauthorization does not obligate immediate local spending beyond the airport-provided match and authorizes staff to accept the federal award on the city’s behalf.
