Mosier Seniors press council for clear funding process, warn center feels unsupported

Kathy Long of the Mosier Seniors addressed the council on March 16, saying she felt the Council was not supportive of the Seniors of Mosier Valley, Inc., which provides two hot meals per week to residents at minimal cost.
Council President Emily Reed responded that the council is supportive of the seniors’ services and that the council is working to create an objective process by which it will continue to appropriate funds to community organizations such as the Seniors of Mosier Valley. Mayor Arlene Burns also noted the city had donated the three large properties where the Senior Center and apartments are located.
Ann Van Osdel, a resident of the Senior Apartments and a former mayor of Mosier, said she recognizes the importance of a defensible process when handling taxpayer funds. Council members reiterated the value of the senior meals for nutrition and social connectivity for local seniors. The council did not record a formal funding decision at the meeting.
