Historic Columbia River Highway centennial projects to touch Mosier; Mitchell Point among 'Final Five'

At the March 16, 2016 Mosier City Council meeting, Judy Davis and Francie Royce of the Historic Columbia River Highway Advisory Committee presented an update on reconnection work and centennial celebrations for the highway.
Davis said the Wyeth-to-Lindsay Creek section is currently in design and that work to go around Shellrock Mountain will require some blasting. Committee members identified a set of remaining uncompleted segments the committee calls the “Final Five,” which includes Mitchell Point and requires additional funding to complete the full highway reconnection.
The advisory committee described a seasonal slate of centennial events across the Gorge. Organizers expect the Gorge Ride to host about 500 riders this year; Senator Jeff Merkley is scheduled to participate. Mosier will also see an Antique Car parade travel through town on July 23, followed by the Mosier Community Parade.
Council members were briefed on the project timeline and local events; committee representatives noted ongoing design work and the need for continued funding to complete the Final Five miles. No formal council action on funding was recorded at the meeting.
