Council approved item 7.24, authorizing an agreement for $3,922,167 with Heatherwood Construction for the Billy Bowleg's Community Building and basketball court. The motion passed with no opposition; parks staff said exterior renderings exist and that interior finishes and furniture procurement will be handled in later phases.
Community member Amber Ware had asked the council to make sure the public saw project renderings and interior details. "The community had not seen the rendering of this project, and they wanna know what it's going to look like ... what it's going to have on the inside," Ware said, urging greater transparency on colors, furniture and concession items. Parks Director Elgin Hicks and project engineers said the design was completed earlier in the process and that stakeholder input took place during design, but they committed to arranging community meetings now that the contractor is selected.
Council approved the construction agreement and staff said they will provide a project timeline and coordinate community engagement on interior finishes and furnishings as procurement progresses.
