Richford hosts Wheeler Block open house as CHIP-funded redevelopment options advance

About 20 residents, business owners, potential partners and Selectboard members attended an open house to discuss redevelopment ideas for the three-story Wheeler Block, Town Administrator Marissa Tessier told the Selectboard on May 18.
The event showcased three drawings from architect Chi Nguyen and highlighted a proposal to dedicate the first floor to businesses and the upper two floors to workforce or senior housing. The project discussion was framed as an application opportunity under the state-funded Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP), which supports renovation of older buildings to create housing and strengthen village centers.
TA Marissa said the Wheeler Block project is a preliminary community planning step: attendees provided feedback and memories of prior uses of the building, and the drawings will remain on display at Main Street Market for additional public viewing. The town and partners, including Tim Smith of Franklin County Industrial Development, will continue conversations about next steps and potential CHIP funding applications.
