Manhattan Parks and Recreation announces NFL flag league affiliation to expand training and equity

Tyler Burrows, Recreation Supervisor of Youth and Adult Athletics for Manhattan Parks and Recreation, announced that the department is now officially an NFL flag league. "Well starting this season you may have noticed a bit of an upgrade in our leagues and that's because we are now officially an NFL flag league," Burrows said, adding the affiliation brings "a lot more opportunities and a lot more resources" to improve programming.
Burrows said the affiliation expands resources for training coaches and officials so they are better prepared to teach NFL flag rules and emphasized the program's focus on fun, equitable participation and teaching non-contact skills. He also noted the NFL connection allows upgraded equipment and apparel, including use of official NFL logos and word marks for athletes. Burrows highlighted the program's potential to expand opportunities for female athletes and said college and junior college programs in Kansas already sponsor women's flag football as the sport grows at the NCAA level. He closed the segment inviting questions from the community and encouraging participation: "Otherwise, play football."
