Allison Mast, the local coordinator for the Healthy Kids Running Series, asked the Town of Pearson on Tuesday to allow a five-week youth running program at Chipper Jones Park.
"I'm currently coordinating the Healthy Kids Running Series," Mast said, explaining the program runs five weeks in the spring and five in the fall and is aimed at ages 2 through high school with a focus on younger children. She told the council the national organization can provide insurance and that the season fee would be $50 per child for the five-race series, including a T-shirt and a medal on week five.
Council members pressed Mast on logistics and schedule conflicts. Mast suggested field 6 (the back-left field) and the park walkways for shorter distances and said she aims for late-afternoon Sunday start times to avoid daytime heat. The town asked Mast to submit the special-event permit packet to town staff so staff can flag scheduling conflicts with youth ball, rodeo and other park activities.
The planner and attorney confirmed that the event would typically require a special-event permit and that staff would bring an application packet to Mast. The council did not take a formal vote; staff was directed to work with the organizer on dates and permit requirements.
