Sharon Selectboard holds off on FY27 salt purchase amid FY26 budget pressures

Finance Manager Lucy Pierpont told the Selectboard that several highway budget lines are currently over budget and that much of the overspending resulted from unanticipated repairs and higher contracted services due to staffing shortfalls. Based on the FY26-to-date projections, she recommended the town not purchase salt in FY26 for use in FY27 so as not to incur FY27 expenses during the current fiscal year. The Board agreed with that recommendation.
Pierpont also noted that the general fund is otherwise tracking appropriately for the time of year, but recommended caution with highway expenditures for the remainder of FY26.
