Civic and Commerce proposes donor‑funded powder‑coated benches for Sherburne parks

"They're the nice blue color that Sherburne has, but they are chipping," Sim said, describing benches that are currently giving splinters. He said the group has grants from Bank Midwest and the Martin County Area Foundation and would solicit donors to cover half of each bench cost so memorial naming could be offered.
Sim said the benches weigh about 280 pounds and can be bolted to concrete or left movable depending on location; the club envisions placing them across parks including Pocket Park and Temperance. Councilors asked about installation, storage and event use; public works staff noted that benches are sometimes moved seasonally and that the city can require they be returned after events.
The council offered a general blessing to pursue ordering and donor outreach; no formal appropriation was required at this meeting. The Civic and Commerce group said it will begin social media outreach and hopes to place the first benches when manufacturing and scheduling permit.
