Sumter Local Government Consulting updated the commission on the ongoing city manager recruitment and proposed a path forward: out of 71 initial resumes (five later withdrawn), the firm recommended 28 semifinalists for videotaped interviews and reputational vetting.
The consultant described a funnel approach: matrix scoring of qualifications to reach the 28, then video interviews (about 40 minutes of video per candidate) and additional open‑source checks before the commission meets to select 5–6 finalists for in‑person visits. "We've received, initially, 71 resumes. 5 candidates have withdrawn since the time that they initially presented their resumes, so 66 candidates remain," the consultant said. Commissioners agreed to proceed with the interviews, asked that the consultant continue broad outreach (ICMA, Florida League, other channels) and agreed to provide draft questions by the week's end for inclusion in the interview script.
