Neighbors and the Tropical Ridge Neighborhood Association urged more playground equipment for ages 2–12, additional benches and tables, and better community engagement. Commissioner Sarah Maliga said she was concerned that the equipment shown in the current bid did not match earlier drawings and that the scope changes looked substantive. "None of that equipment is the same on the original plan," she said, asking staff to clarify procurement equivalency.
Purchasing staff advised that bidders can offer equivalent models but scope reductions after award are constrained under procurement rules; staff recommended pursuing an extension so the city can repackage the work and avoid piecemeal change orders. The commission voted to direct staff to seek the extension, revise the scope with community input, and rebid the project.
