Sharon Energy Committee considers proposal to pursue local data center moratorium

Dee Gish, a member of the Sharon Energy Committee, said she attended a presentation about data center moratoria at Baxter Library earlier this year and will check back with that group to determine next steps. The committee discussed following South Royalton, which recently approved a moratorium and added it to its Town Plan, and noted state activity and examples from other states including New York and Maine (the committee noted Maine's moratorium was vetoed by the governor).
Gish said it may be more approachable to put a warrant on next year’s Town Meeting ballot rather than pursue an immediate action; the group did not take a formal vote. Committee members agreed to investigate next steps and to coordinate with regional contacts before deciding whether to draft a local moratorium proposal.
