Magistrate McGibbon handled a long docket of business-license cases, extension requests and lien-reduction petitions. He routinely set compliance dates (commonly late July–September 2026) and assessed or confirmed daily fines and administrative costs when files remained out of compliance. "You bought the problem," McGibbon told one purchaser who inherited a lien at a foreclosure sale and then sought reduction, emphasizing that new owners inherit encumbrances on a property and must resolve them, or accept the lien amount, reinstatement rules, or stipulated reductions.
The magistrate granted the city's request to vacate a previously recorded order for a property on North Dixie Highway and approved numerous stipulated lien-reduction agreements where applicants and the city had reached terms. At the same time, the court denied some extension requests where the city documented persistent outstanding violations and urged quicker action for cases involving life-safety concerns (window egress, pool fencing, or exposed fasteners).
