City proposes cooperative contract for school crossing guards using Plantation contract

Tara Williams, director of human resources, presented a resolution asking the commission to approve a cooperative contract with Staffing Connections (through the City of Plantation contract) to provide school crossing guards beginning in August, when the current contract expires. Procurement manager Azam Paperowala explained that Lauderdale Lakes lacked sufficient time to solicit, evaluate, and award its own contract and therefore sought to leverage Plantation’s existing contract and vendor to ensure coverage.
The commission asked about contract value and term structure; Paperowala referred members to the backup materials for detailed figures and explained the cooperative agreement and extension structure. Staff said the vendor and crossing-guard personnel would remain the same and that the arrangement is intended to prevent service disruptions when school begins in the fall.
