Broward County Animal Care asks Lauderdale Lakes to boost pet registration outreach

Zachary Rankins, public information officer for Broward County Animal Care, told the commission that annual pet registration and microchipping improve reunification and animal-welfare outcomes. He described registration-fee options and microchip incentives and encouraged Lauderdale Lakes to publicize free microchip clinics and registration drives. “We encourage all of the residents of Lauderdale Lakes to come through and get pet registration because not only are they required, but they are an amazing resource to reunite families,” Rankins said.
Commissioners asked how many Lauderdale Lakes residents have registered pets and requested flyers and outreach materials; Rankins said he would send flyers and coordinate with the interim manager’s office. He also noted the shelter is frequently overcrowded and that adoption-fee waivers are sometimes used to increase adoptions.
