In reading the proclamation, Colswell said Scott "has reached the remarkable milestone of 90 years of young life marked by excellence, service, and unwavering dedication to her community." The proclamation notes Scott graduated from Dillard High School (class of 1953) and Bethune‑Cookman College (class of 1957), appeared in Jet magazine during her college years, devoted more than 40 years to the Broward County Public School System as an educator and administrator, has more than 65 years of active membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and has provided over 65 years of volunteer service throughout Broward County.
The proclamation also states Scott has been a Lauderdale Lakes resident for more than 20 years, served as a past homeowners association president, and "played an instrumental role as one of the initiators of the city's historic Sam Brown Rue," which the proclamation noted was scheduled to open this evening. The presentation drew supportive remarks from the sponsor and applause from attendees. No formal vote was required for the proclamation.
