Lauderdale Lakes approves contract to bring Taurus Riley as Caribbean American Unity Fest headliner

Lauderdale Lakes commissioners voted unanimously to approve a services agreement that secures Omar Riley, professionally known as Taurus Riley, as the headliner for the Caribbean American Unity Fest scheduled for June 5, 2026 at Vincent Torres Memorial Park. City staff told the commission the contract and addendum set a not‑to‑exceed cap of $50,000 for all entertainment and event‑related expenses.
Special Events Coordinator Melody Dominique told the commission, “The artist the total for the artist was $30,090,” and said that amount covers the headliner and included airfare for the artist. City Attorney Calloway said staff had revised the addendum and agreement language to protect the city, including indemnification provisions and limits on liability. The commission moved and approved resolution 2026‑044 on a unanimous vote.
The vote authorizes the mayor and city clerk to execute the agreement with Jukebox Productions/Jukebox Entertainment and incorporate the attached addendum. The contract package includes cost items for per diems, hotel accommodations and transportation; staff said sponsorships and ticket revenue are expected to offset much of the cost. Commissioners and public commenters urged attention to logistics and community benefits as the city prepares for the combined festival.
