Commission approves $1.41 million FDOT agreement for citywide traffic calming

The City Commission of Lauderdale Lakes on April 28 approved a Local Agency Program agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation that will provide $1,411,347 for citywide traffic-calming construction.
Public Works director Juan Desbrods told the commission the scope includes roundabouts, speed humps and other devices in neighborhoods including Eastgate, Northgate, Oakland Estate and Westgate. "This is a necessary step for the next move, which is going out to bid, selecting a contractor, and start construction," Desbrods said. He added the design phase was funded previously at $437,143 and the final design package has been submitted to FDOT for approval. The commission moved the resolution to the floor and approved it by roll call.
The agreement will release construction funding after FDOT signs and issues a notice to proceed; Desbrods said staff completed the ITB and will return to FDOT for signature to trigger bidding. The project aims to address multiple resident complaints about traffic safety in the named locations. The commission voted to approve Resolution 2026-040, moving the project into the procurement stage.
