Assistant Principal Steven Blue told the committee he surveyed roughly 85 of Chavez’s rising 5th graders and shared their unaided responses about possible new school names. "There were 14 students that responded with 'Maple Grove Elementary,' eight who suggested 'Ice Age Trail Elementary,' and six who suggested 'Kindness Elementary,'" he said, noting these ideas were students’ own and were collected before the broader public submissions were available.
Chelsea and committee members thanked Steven and Principal Mullen for bringing student voice into the process; Chelsea said the student feedback would be included in the materials committee members receive before the August rescore. Steven emphasized that the student responses were not staff-driven but reflected authentic student choices and that he would share the raw student comments in the scoring packet.
