Parks chief previews fall events, Converse building work and free-cycle

Parks & Recreation Superintendent Stanley told council leaders that the village's fishing-derby series wrapped for the year with solid attendance and that Uptown entertainment was paused during one event because of late-day lightning. "We did not allow them to go on stage," Stanley said, explaining the decision was based on stage safety during lightning and that staff played house music and posted updates as needed.
Stanley reported construction progress at the Converse building: plumbing work is underway, electrical work will follow, and crews started digging a roughly 200-foot sewer line toward Annette and Converse Avenue. On pool operations, he said a driver-related outage that night was addressed quickly and that membership processes (including debit-card payments) have improved convenience. He previewed the Aug. 14 farm night (petting zoo, pony rides and an ice cream social) and described a free-cycle event on Aug. 8 (drop-off 7–10 a.m., public shopping 10 a.m.–2 p.m.).
Stanley and mayoral remarks clarified that a capital grant for Converse will be used for park improvements and that Commerce Park may be listed in records as Jack Rock McDowell Athletic Complex; they said the grant paperwork will reference the athletic complex name to avoid confusion.
