Columbia County announced a new partnership with Google and Georgia Power that county leaders say will both protect local ratepayers and provide revenue for property-tax relief. "County leaders say this agreement will protect local rate payers, establish some of the nation's most restrictive data center development standards, and generate new revenue to support long term property tax relief for Columbia County homeowners," Hallie said in the county's recorded statement.
The county presented the partnership as part of a broader plan to reduce property taxes while addressing community concerns about data-center development. Hallie said the agreement was crafted after hearing concerns from communities nationally and that it includes protective measures intended to limit the potential local impact of a data center. County officials indicated further details would be shared as the project moves forward; the county also posted a press release and an ordinance describing the project's limits and requirements.
