City proposes joining Plantation cooperative to continue school crossing guard services

Human Resources Director Tara Williams presented a proposal to join the City of Plantation cooperative contract for school crossing guard services (Agreement #03823) for the term 08/01/2026–09/19/2027 at a not-to-exceed amount of $329,783.70. Williams said the city’s previous piggyback arrangement with Tamarac ended due to procurement timing and that the Plantation contract would retain the current vendor, the same rates and allow local guards to remain in place.
Commissioners questioned why the school district does not contribute to crossing guard costs. HR said the district does not provide funding for crossing guards and that the city would follow up to determine why and whether contribution is possible. Procurement staff confirmed the awarded vendor and pricing structure are consistent with the Plantation cooperative contract and that mobilization and vendor continuity were considered in the recommendation.
Next steps: staff will proceed with joining the cooperative contract and will research whether the school district can contribute to guard costs; any action will return to the commission if required.
