Lauderdale Lakes to extend Resilient Florida grant timeline for Fire Station 37 planning

City staff sought approval to execute Amendment No. 3 to extend a Resilient Florida grant that funds hardening and rebuilding of Fire Station 37, preserving the current $3,000,000 award while the city completes planning and design.
Heidi told the commission the original grant was accepted in 2022 but design delays, including the loss of an initial consultant, required additional time. "So this is an extension for 1 year to get us to 06/30/2027," she said, noting the Resilient Florida program typically grants one-year extensions so projects can proceed to construction once design and planning are complete.
Staff emphasized there would be no change to the grant amount and that the extension is administrative to maintain eligibility and access to construction-phase funding in subsequent periods. Commissioners expressed support and asked for continued updates on consultant selection, design milestones and the anticipated timeline to proceed to construction.
