CAPC outlines six priority focus areas including geothermal and autonomous-vehicle planning

The Action Working Group proposed six focus areas for the next six months: Climate Leader Community status, autonomous-vehicle planning, geothermal exploration, a Blue Hills tree study, waste-network and recycling audits, and educational/networking meetings.
Ron Israel summarized a set of proposed priorities the action working group will pursue over the next six months. The six focus areas are: (1) advancing Climate Leader Community status, (2) autonomous-vehicle planning (with Steve Popkin to lead), (3) geothermal energy exploration (led by Hale Smith for Town Hall and nearby churches), (4) a Blue Hills tree composition study to assess carbon sequestration potential, (5) the Waste Management Network and recycling audit work described by the Waste Working Group, and (6) a series of educational/networking meetings—one per domain—to engage staff, experts, and residents.
The committee discussed sequencing and staff engagement needs; several items require departmental buy-in and, in some cases, grant support. Members identified potential leads for each area and emphasized that educational/networking meetings could help bridge gaps between the committee and town staff. No formal adoption of a workplan occurred because a quorum was not present.
