Commission authorizes CDBG application to fund home repairs and senior services

The Lauderdale Lakes City Commission voted to authorize submission of the city’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for the FY2026–2027 funding cycle seeking a total amount not to exceed $317,875.
Parks & Human Services Director Erica Lockett explained the request: $45,000 for door-to-door senior transportation, $15,000 for senior quality-of-life programming at the senior center, and the balance for minor home repair. Development Services staff said the department requested $257,875 to run minor home-repair projects and estimated the funding could support between five and ten homes, with a maximum eligibility of up to $45,000 per home if necessary. "Each home is eligible to up to 45,000," Development Services staff said when describing the program scope.
Commissioners asked about outreach to seniors, visibility of programs on the city website and alternatives for residents who do not meet income-based eligibility. Lockett said the city maintains a calendar and will mail materials by request; staff noted they had requested additional funding but were not approved in this cycle.
The commission approved resolution 2026-032. Staff said once awards are made by Broward County the city will execute projects and then be reimbursed by grant funds.
